Predicting Cardiotoxicity of Cancer Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors with Adult Human Primary Cardiomyocytes

AnaBios scientists tested eight FDA-approved tyrosine kinase inhibitors and one experimental TKI in adult human primary cardiomyocytes. An imaging-based contractility platform distinguished cardiotoxic from safe TKIs in line with clinical outcomes, flagging both inotropic and pro-arrhythmic liabilities with low inter- and intra-heart variability. Calcium imaging further revealed mechanism, showing cardiotoxic TKIs lower intracellular Ca²⁺. The results position adult human cardiomyocytes as a predictive, translational tool for ranking the cardiac safety of new TKIs early in discovery.
